Fundamental Principles

Policy 1
Learning Skills & Work Habits
- My professional learning goal for this policy is to find the balance between collaboration and independent work and how I can use classroom management techniques to properly facilitate the self-regulation that this requires.
The strategy that I will use to achieve this goal is to create a routine each day in my class where independent work is directly followed by collaboration. To achieve self-regulation I will use modelling and class generated success criteria of self-regulation.
Policy 2
Performance Standards: The Achievement Chart
The Ministry of Education - Ontario Curriculum Achievement Chart:

Growing Success Achievement Chart:

Performance Standards: The Achievement Chart:
My goal is to create accessible achievement charts that are developed with the class to clearly outline my expectations.
The strategy that I will use to achieve this goal is to use a 4 level system pertaining to four areas of achievement: Knowledge & Understanding, Thinking, Communication, and Application. I will share with my students the success criteria and allow them to view samples of work that fall under each level.
Policy 3
Assessment FOR Learning & AS Learning
My goal is to improve student learning and development by focusing on formative assessment techniques to create independent learners who can self regulate their actions.
The strategy that I will use to achieve this goal is to use self assessment and peer assessment rubrics to have students reflecting on their achievements and areas of self improvement. Eventually students can become part of the rubric design process.
Policy 4
Evaluation
Evaluation:
EduGains Video, segment 6, Determining a Grade. Accessed Nov. 23 2015.
My goal is to create accurate grades by collaborating with other teachers.
The strategy that I will use to achieve this goal is to use triangulation of conversation, observation, and product to create fair grades. This can be done by constantly creating point form notes throughout conversations with students, observations of their class time activity, and organized marking books with all product marks documented.
Policy 5
Reporting Student Achievement
My goal is to effectively report all aspects of student learning to benefit the student, parents, and teacher.
The strategy to achieve this goal is to focus on product criteria, process criteria, and progress criteria for accurate reporting of student achievement and areas of improvement.
Policy 6

The Individual Education Plan (IEP):

My goal is to create differentiated lesson plans that meet the needs of most/all of my exceptional learners.
The strategy I will use to achieve this goal is to focus on student readiness, interests, and preferences as a means of knowing my learners so as to meet their learning needs. This can be done through anticipations guides, autobiography introduction journals, and questionnaires asking how they enjoy to present their knowledge (written, spoken, visually etc.)
Policy 7
English Language Learners

English Language Learners in the Classroom:

http://www.edugains.ca/newsite/ell/supportingenglishlanguagelearners.html
My goal is to be an inclusive educator who takes into consideration all of the learning needs of my students, including those whose primary language is not English.
My strategy for achieving this goal is to create a learning environment where my English language learners can see themselves and their first language being encouraged and supported. This can be done through welcome materials posted around the classroom highlighting various languages, pronouncing foreign students names correctly, and through multicultural resources available in the class.
